Music on the program
Dr. Bohnet's flute recital will begin with the Bach Sonata in b minor, BWV 1030, which is often considered the most significant of the seven sonatas attributed to Bach for the flute. The right hand of the keyboard part, which is totally written out, acts as another treble voice, basically transforming this work into a magnificent trio sonata.
Camille Saint-Saëns’s Caprice sur des Airs Danois et Russes, op. 79, will feature all of the evening’s performers in a work which is both lyrical and virtuosic. Bohnet and Franklin recorded this work on the Trebuchet album Perpetuum Mobile, but it will be given a fresh interpretation with the addition of Holm and Selkirk.
The concert will conclude with Musique Française by GarySchocker. Schocker happens to be the most published living composer for the flute, and this work for both flutist and pianist is simply delightful. After that, a brief postlude will be added to the event, which to many audience members may be reminiscent of Ian Anderson/Jethro Tull.
